Falkner Winery Scores Big at California State Fair Wine Competition
After a big win earlier this year at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition with their 2007 Sauvignon Blanc, Falkner Winery won a “Best of California” award for their 2007 Riesling at this year’s California State Fair Wine Competition.
The wonderful Riesling wine also received a “Best of South Coast Appellation” award and a Gold Medal. This tasty 2007 vintage wine out-placed all of the better known Napa, Sonoma, and Central Coast brands. Says co-owner Ray Falkner, “I’m very pleased to see our very popular Riesling perform so well against so many other California wineries”. With Rieslings becoming increasingly popular, this semi-dry wine captures wonderful flavors of pear and honeysuckle that pair well with most salads and Asian food. Priced at $16.95, this wine is affordable for all wine lovers.
Additionally, Falkner Winery was awarded a Silver Medal on their 2005 Meritage (retail $39.95). This delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc had previously received a Gold Medal at the 2009 Taster’s Guild International Wine Competition. These wonderful wines are made by winemaker Steve Hagata with a “soft” style that complements food extremely well. Falkner Winery is a premier winery in the Temecula Valley Wine Country.
